In Need Of Networking Advice!

May 23, 2011 2:11pm

No, not inter-personal networking, or online social networking, or business contact networking - literal computer networking, with wires and cables and all that sort of stuff the less computer-technically-able (like us) don't understand!

We're looking to get a whole new office set up, upgrading our computers and setting up a new content delivery network linking them all together, but are at a bit of a loss in understanding it all.

We're a small business with a couple of adjacent offices and a number of computers - we need them all to have their own computer memories for each person's files, but also a server that everyone can access for shared files. We also need some advice on web hosting too. Are there any other small businesses out these with a similar set up that can help advise us on our best way forward?

Bike Disaster!

May 5, 2011 4:25pm

I'm a really safe cyclist, I wear high-vis, have loads of lights, a helmet, I'm always checking behind me, I always indicate, and I've always been completely safe.

So it'll be a bit of a surprise for me to tell you that I had an accident today! Some boy racer tried to speed past and overtake me on his child-size BMX, swerved inwards to avoid the car driving alongside us and completely smashed into me.

We ended up in a complete tangled mess on the pavement - luckily not the busy road - it was pretty shocking!.

I'm probably going to be a bit bruised but I'm fine, though I can't say the same for my bike. The front brake snapped and needs replacing, my back wheel needs truing and my front wheel is a complete write off. All because of that idiot!

I can't even afford the repairs, I've left it in the shop and now I'm filling out a short term loan application, please Wonga.com, grant me some money until payday!

Looking After Your Hanging Basket

April 8, 2011 11:40pm

A garden can seem a lot brighter and prettier with hanging baskets. It is simple enough to put one together, but to keep it looking healthy and colourful it can take a bit of work.

The first thing to remember is to water it well! Sometimes you might miss it when watering the rest of your garden as it is not on the ground, but try not to forget!

Spring is the best time to put one together so that all the risk of frost has passed. Frost will kill of the flowers quickly because of their height in the air, so be careful.

Always try to remove spent blooms from the plants two to three times a week as this will encourage the plants to produce more flowers. And you can also boost the growth with a weekly liquid feed.

And of course enjoy the flowers!

Fit for a King

April 5, 2011 2:41pm

Not many people think to decorate your gardens. Some think some flowers, a few shrubs and well-trimmed grass is enough.

But I have decided to spruce mine up in time for the summer. I wanted it to look chic, with a little bit of colour. One of the perfect things I have found is lanterns. You can buy them in all colours and sizes and hang them around your garden. Also they are great no matter what size your garden is.

To go with the lanterns I have bought some dinner sets for BBQ’s when the sun is shining! Lastly to add a bit of class I have bought a Bird Table.

It looks great as it is made of timber painted white and has a little copper roof. It almost looks like a mini-summer house fit for a king! Hopefully it will attract loads of new birds and keep my garden busy!

5 Alternative Cold Remedies

November 22, 2010 6:00pm

1. Chicken Soup.
Not just an old wives tail forced upon us by Grandma. Scientists at the University of Nebraska Medical Centre found that Chicken Soup can act as an anti-inflammatory which can relieve some symptoms. It also speeds up the movements of mucus, relieving congestion.
2. Garlic.
Garlic contains the compound Allicin which has been found to contain anti-bacterial and anti-fungal qualities. To maximise the amount of Allicin you should eat fresh cloves raw and crush. This is also perfect for repelling vampires and women.
3. Orange Juice. Vitamin C is a natural anti-oxidant and helps your body fight off infection. Citrus fruits are full of Vitamin C so try mixing up a smoothie of oranges, apples, pineapple and other fruits.
4. Peppermint tea. Peppermint has a variety of decongestant; expectorant and antiviral properties which can help soothe a sore throat and relieve a dry cough or cold and flu like symptoms. A good follow up to use if garlic didn’t work for you.
5. Ginger. The ginger root herb has long been reported to cure a range of ailments from nausea and arthritis, right down to the common cold. The spiced flavour will help soothe your throat and clear blocked sinuses.
